‘A Street Fighter Picnic’ gender-swapped cosplay parody: man, female Sagat’s a real b****

a street fighter picnic

Sagat takes his… her rivalry with Ryu too far in this gender-swapped cosplay parody, a reimagination of Capcom’s classic Street Fighter II storyline, made by the folks at ReallyCleverAndroids.

I think I like ReallyCleverAndroids’s version of Chun-Li better than Yoshinori Ono’s or Jackie Chan’s.

According to an industry insider on Twitter, Namco Bandai Games announced today at a private trade event two new titles in their portfolio of arcade games — Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme Vs. Maxi Boost (機動戦士ガンダムエクストリームバーサスマキシブースト), and Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 5 (湾岸ミッドナイトマキシマムチューン5).

Both titles are expected to hit arcades sometime in March 2014, according to the industry insider.

This announcement of a sequel for Namco Bandai’s long-running “Gundam Vs.” series of games comes one day ahead of the official release date unveiling for Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme Vs. Full Boost on the PS3 — although we may have reported on the news of the release date today, since Weekly Famitsu magazine typically comes out on newsstands on Thursdays, the announcement is really meant for tomorrow instead.

On the one hand, as a fan of the series it’s good to know that they’re already making a new instalment. On the other, I haven’t even pre-ordered the upcoming PS3 Gundam Vs. release yet! I’m feeling a little conflicted inside on what to make of the news.

How about you?

How to make ‘Ohmurice’ — a dish based on the bugs from Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind [Video]

ohmurice top

In the Studio Ghibli animated feature film Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Ohmus are a breed of gigantic crustaceans somewhat resembling pillbugs.

The Kanji writing for Ohmu (王蟲) literall means “King Insect”. Which makes a lot of sense, but also had the likely unintended effect of being associated with Omurice, or “omelette rice” in Japanese.

As a result, after watching the movie, many Nausicaa fans were compelled to create an “Ohmurice” dish, which is usually a plate of rice and fried noodles wrapped in an omelette and topped with sliced tomatoes in lieu of ketchup, like so:

Looks pretty tasty, doesn’t it? Since the so-called Ohmurice is made with all the same ingredients you’d find in a regular plate of omurice, even though it’s supposed to resemble a giant insect, the results can still be surprisingly appetising and tasty.

But that’s if you were going for taste.

If you’re going for realism, well, that’s something else altogether.

Realism was what the elder sister of Nico Video user Kimuyoshi went for, as you’ll see in this video below.

Kimuyoshi’s sister managed to add a modicum of photorealism to this popular (?) dish by colouring the whole dish black – a colouring mixture made with squid ink and spinach powder.

The “legs” part of the dish, typically represented by fried noodles, were instead made with wheat floor and spinach powder.

And this is what the egg plus squid ink and spinach powder mixture looks like… er, yum?

Oreimo light novel author Tsukasa Fushimi announces his next series, ‘Eromanga Sensei’

oreimolightnovels

Tsukasa Fushimi, author of the ever-popular OreImo series has announced that OreImo was not his last work, and will be releasing another series this December.

Although many tears were shed over Kirino’s marriage in the final OVA’s for OreImo, fans will not have to wait much longer for Fushimi to tug at their heartstrings once more. He will be releasing the first light novel in a new series on December 10 this year. Hiro Kanzaki will also be returning to provide the illustrations for this new series.

The light novel series is under the working title of “Eromanga Sensei”, so that hopefully means even more comedic situations. The reason for the title itself is that it will play a key role in the plot. It’s also been revealed that the protagonist is a high school student who is attempting to maintain a good relationship with his little sister.

If I didn’t know better I would think we’re getting an alternate route for OreImo. We’ll just have to wait until December rolls around to see what sort of little sister story we get from Fushimi this time around.
