Toriko enters new food battleground at Sukiya

torikofeat

The manga that takes the idea of food and hunting and combines them into one crazy adventure is offering a new unique taste at Sukiya.

For those unfamiliar with Sukiya, it’s a fastfood chain in Japan that’s as prominent as McDonald’s; almost every town has one or two. They specialize in serving gyuudon, a bowl of rice served with beef on top. That makes it the perfect place for Toriko, with its own fantastic meals, to appear at.

(Keep up with Toriko here on SGCafe! )

sukiyabowl

The special themed bowl for Toriko will be an Okinomi Ushitama Don, a bowl that combines the taste of okinomiyaki and beef, something that usually does not go in the Kansai specialty dish. To match the taste as closely as possible, though, it will include some of the standard ingredients that go into the savory pancake dish. That means, cabbage, okinomiyaki sauce (listed as special sauce), and of course mayonaise, dried bonito flakes and seaweed flakes. Taking care to fully appeal to the usual Sukiya crowd, it is served with a raw egg on top.

For those purchasing the dish as part of the campaign, they will be rewarded with a chance to win a mini-size version bowl featuring Toriko. Only 5,000 people will win the bowl, which costs 390 yen for the normal size, and only between August 1 and August 8 when the campaign runs.

This isn’t the first time Sukiya has teamed up with anime or manga characters to offer a specially themed bowl. Crayon Shin-chan previously appeared in a campaign with a yakisoba themed bowl, and most fittingly with Kin Nikkuman for an especially hearty beef bowl.

Super Robot Girls Z takes super to a whole new level

mazingerzfeat

If Mazinger Z turning forty made you feel a little old, don’t worry because a new series in 2014 will be breathing new life into the series in a strange way. Super Robot Girls Z may not be making its way on air until January 2014, but it’s already giving fans a taste of what’s to come with a four minute preview on YouTube and Nico Nico Douga. The preview, which parodies the first episode of Mazinger Z features the first mechanical beasts in cute moe forms stealing from a ramen shop under Baron Ashura’s command. After Mazinger Z (Zed-chan) shows up and starts to lie the smack down, her super robot companions from the same trilogy Great Mazinger (Gre-chan) and Grendizer (Grenda-san) show up and the villains find themselves in more trouble than they can handle. (More on Toei here on SGCafe )

Toei will be airing the show on their own Toei Channel come this January, though it won’t be a full length show. Instead it will follow the recent trend of shorts, with each episode running at ten minutes each. It’s being supervised by Accel World’s Hiroshi Ikehata, with character design being handled by OreImo’s Tetsuya Kawakami. The voice actors for the three Super Robot girls has also been announced. They include Mariko Honda (Nichijou’s Yuuko) as Z-chan, Inori Minase (Occult Academy’s Akari) as Gre-chan and Kazusa Aranami (Penguindrum’s Mario) as Grenda-san.

So far, not much else has been announced on the public site, but they will be making an appearance at booth 321 in this summer’s Comiket with Star Plus One.

Monogatari art exhibit to start in August

monogatarisecondfeat

Just in time to match up with the batch of Monogatari shows coming out this summer, an art exhibit in Ikebukuro is aiming to give fans even more supernatural romance.

Opening in Sunshine City’s World Import Mart on August 29, the Araragi Pavillion will feature a host of artwork from the Monogatari series. It will not only feature original artwork from the series, but also commentary from the individual characters. (Get your fill of Monogatari here at SGCafe )

In addition to artwork, famous scenes from the novel and show will also be recreated, such as the starry sky and part of the cultural festival. Of course, a photography spot will also be set up for fans to remember their visit with.

Mizuki Shigeru to start yet another hauntingly good manga in August

mizukishigerufeat

He may be 91, but Mizuke Shigeru is still youthful enough to start in on another horror manga, this time online.

Mizuki Shigeru always seems to be embracing new things; from relearning how to draw with his right hand after losing his left in the war, to starting a new series online. Although a spin-off of one of his older series, Kappa no Sanpei, the latest addition to his works should feel right at home on the Yawaraka Spirits website. (More stories on manga here at SGCafe )

sanpeinokappa1

Kappa no Sanpei: House of God (Kappa no Sanpei Ie no Kami), will continue the adventures of a kappa and his friendship with the boy Sanpei, particularly the jokes they like to play on tanuki. In the original manga, Sanpei is taken in by the kappa for his strong resemblance to them which of course leads to a number of humorous situations. It was popular at the time to merit an anime adaptation.

kappanosanpei

His manga is set to be released on August 27 as part of a special First Reading Festival edition of Yawaraka Monthly. He will be joining other famous manga artists such as Yuuki Masami (Birdy the Mighty), Inio Asano (Solanin) and Oshikiri Rensuke (Sayuri) in the web magazine.

Become a titan with latest Attack on Titan goods

cospatitanfeat

Leading goods maker Cospa is ready to let fans fill their Colossal Titan needs with their latest line up of Attack on Titan goods.

For fans still in need of a Titan fix outside of the show, anime goods maker Cospa is rolling out a new set of goods featuring the cuddliest Titan of them all: Colossal Titan. Their first good is a T-shirt allowing fans to proudly declare their Colossal status as a 60 meter class. The back is there to ensure your friends safety though, reminding them where to slice should you ever rampage. (Even more Attack on Titan at SGCafe here )

cospatitan0

Of course, it’s not just a declaration, because when you flip the shirt over your head, the Colossal Titan’s appears. It makes the perfect surprise for fans and nonfans who might ask you just what a 60m class is. It comes in extra small to extra large sizes and can be yours for 3045 yen here.

cospatitan1

If showing off your Titan love with a T-shirt is a little too obvious, you can always use the new Wall Maria mug to recreate your own attack scene, be it Attack on Coffee or Attack on Tea. Featuring the manga rendition of the Titan looking over the wall, he leers at your drink while standing outside to dwarf your mug. Going for 840 yen on the Cospa website, it’s an excellent way to make your morning and afternoon tea times more exciting.

cospatitan2

If you really need to show off your love of Attack on Titan during any occasion, though, a ring featuring the Survey Corps insignia could be just what you need. Designed to look like a class ring, it features the English titles of the corps around the insignia, as well as the mark of Wall Sina on one side and 104′s emblem on the other. Made of silver and available in every other ring size from 15 to 25 it will retail for 12600 yen here. Act quickly though, as much like the Colossal Titan it will disappear as fast as it appears, with only six being put into production.

cospatitan3

Each of the items are currently up for preorder, and will be available in September.

Attack on Titan X Lawson campaign brings even more goods for fans

aotfeat

Lawson continues to keep fans cool and happy this summer with anime collaborations. This time Attack on Titan is taking a break from their defence of humanity to enjoy some snacks.

As you can see, the promotional image has squad 104 reuniting outside the convenience store chain, with Levi taking the helm and looking rather enthused about the whole thing. Sasha has no problem at all, though, and seems to have taken on a form worse than the looming Colossal Titan over a bag of Calbee potato chips.

(Even more on Attack on Titan on SGCafe here )

aotlawsonpromo

Fans should also show more enthusiasm than Levi as well with the goods available during the campaign. By purchasing two of the specially marked Calbee products, such as those shown on the poster, customers will receive one of four plug charms.

aotplugcharm

If the thought of a little Mikasa on your phone isn’t enough for you, Lawson’s Loppi machine will also be selling a series of Attack on Titan related goods. From a notebook featuring the promotional image to a full sized calendar with Attack on Titan’s own promotional image on it.

lawsonpromoaot

The campaign starts today and runs until August 23, so if you’re in need of potato chips, Lawson may be a good place to stop in at.
